Abbreviations

Many RC terms are abbreviated. This page is a list of the common abbreviations or numbers related to both ground RC vehicles and the Savage.

• 1015 - Ace DS1015 high torque servo (high end servo)
• 6061 - Common, strong aluminium alloy, used for a lot of RC parts. Wikipedia article
• 645 - Hitec HS-645mg high torque servo (reasonable budget servo).
• 7075 - High strength aluminium alloy, used for expensive, high-end RC parts. Wikipedia article
• 5645 - Hitec HS-5645mg high torque servo (mid range servo)
• 5955 - Hitec HS-5955tg high torque servo (high end servo)
• 7955 - Hitec HS-7955tg high torque servo (high end servo)
• Alu - Alumnium
• ARO - After run oil - oil used to treat engine internals for protection after running.
• BDC - Bottom dead center. The position at which the piston is at the very bottom and center of it's stroke.
• BST - Buy Sell and Trade.
• Carb - Carburettor
• CB - Clutch Bell - Hardened metal gear that sits over the clutch on the engine crank shaft.
• CC - Cubic centimeters - measurement of engine displacement.
• CI - Cubic inches - measurement of engine displacement.
• CVD - constant velocity drive shaft - Similar to a dogbone but with a universal joint for smoother operation
• Diff - Differential
• Ext - Extended, usually referring to TVPs
• FLM - Fast Lane Machine - popular manufacturer of RC hop-ups, especially known for Savage TVPs.
• GPM - Manufacturer of aluminium RC hop-ups
• HD - Heavy duty
• HPI - Hobby Products International - manufacturer of the Savage
• HSN - High speed needle - carburettor adjustment for high RPM fuel control.
• HTL - Half tank lean, a common condition where the fuel system starts to lean out when the fuel level drops below half full.
• IRC - Innovative RC - popular manufacturer of RC hop-ups, especially known for Savage TVPs.
• LCG - Low center of gravity - usually referring to TVPs.
• LiPo - Lithium Polymer (High performance chemical composition of battery)
• LHS - Local hobby shop
• LSN - Low speed needle - carburettor adjustment for low RPM fuel control.
• MSN - Mid speed needle - carburettor adjustment for mid RPM fuel control (only on some carburettors).
• NiCd - Nickel Cadmium (chemical composition of battery)
• NiMH - Nickel Metal Hydride (chemical composition of battery)
• OWB - One way bearing - usually refers to the bearing on the engine backplate used for starting, may also refer to the transmission one way bearings.
• RPM - Revolutions per minute, measurement of rotational frequency.
• RPM - Manufacturer of plastic RC Hop-ups.
• RTR - Ready to run
• RX - Receiver
• SC - Savage Central (This site!)
• SG - Spur gear - Large input gear on the transmission, incorporating a slipper.
• TDC - Top dead center. The position at which the piston is at the very top and center of it's stroke
• Tower - Tower Hobbies, popular north American hobby shop.
• Tranny - Transmission
• TRS - Throttle return spring
• Ti - Titanium
• TT - Twisted Toys, now defunct manufacturer of Savage TVPs.
• TVPs - Twin vertical plates, main chassis of the Savage.
• TX - Transmitter
• WOT - Wide open throttle
