Engine
The engine (obviously) is the complex mechanical device that converts the energy stored in fuel into torque to move the car. The specs of the engines are provided by Xtreme RC magazine, and are completely different than the manufacturer's specs. Still, it is a good idea to use forums and watch YouTube videos to gauge an engine's true power. Also, all prices are from Tower (if available), and are to give you a general idea or the price, not the lowest or highest possible.
Engines used in the HPI Savage are usually two-stroke, single piston, methanol-based fuel burners that deliver extremely high RPMs but fairly low torque. Here is an animation explaining how a 2 stroke engine works- Please note that this is a gas engine, but the basic principles still apply.

And here's a breakdown of a nitro engine's components, just so you don't go around asking the hobby shop guy where to get the thingamabobby that attaches to the little spinny thing.

- Claimed HP: Not tested by 3d party
- Displacement: 4.9 cc (.30 ci)

STS .28
|
Specs-
- RPM: Not tested by 3d party
- HP: 1.6
- Displacement: 4.6 cc (.28 ci)
- Street Price: $95 (E-bay Buy It Now)
- Notes: This isn't a "high performance" engine of sorts, but it is a great bang for your buck, and can easily send a Savage on its rear two wheels. I've heard they have some issues with lemons, but when they work they work great... and at that price, I'll take what I can get!
