Help:Getting started
The aim of this wiki is to catalog information pertaining to the Savage, related hop-ups and modifications, and how-tos and guides about performing modifications and maintenance. We're aiming to roughly emulate Wikipedia, but on a small scale.

Creating Pages
Pages need to be created for major parts (for example brakes, engines, servos, radios, shocks, etc), for major mods (Mid Tank Mod, Throttle Mod, etc) and for guides (Tuning, Racing, etc). To find out whether a page exists, make sure you are logged in and run a search for the page. If it exists exactly how you typed it in, it will take you straight to the page. Otherwise it will take you to a page giving suggested pages that may apply or asking you if you would like to create the page. If you're sure the page doesn't exist already, then click the "create this page" link.
Guidelines/information for creating new pages:
- Page names should start with a capital letter and use regular spaces where necessary. For example "Brakes" or "Throttle mod". The wiki software will automatically substitute underscores for spaces in page URLs.
- Pages that have not been created yet but have been linked to within a page will be linked to in red text. Pages that do exist will be linked in blue. You may create a page just by clicking on a red link.
- More information can be found at the WikiMedia "Starting a new page" help page
Redirects
If a page could potentially be referred to my multiple names, choose the most sensible name for the main article and then set up redirects for the other names. For example the topic on Twin vertical plates may also be referred to by "TVP" or "TVPs". In this case we can make it easier for people to find the page by also creating pages for "TVP" and "TVPs" and making them automatically redirect to the same page. This is done by using the following code in the alternate page:
#REDIRECT name of the target page
More information can be found at the WikiMedia redirect help page
Categories
Pages that belong in specific categories should be tagged as such by inserting a category tag at the end of the page. Category listings and pages are automatically generated.

A list of categories the Wiki is targeting can be found on the Project Plan page. More information can be found at the WikiMedia category help page
Formatting Pages
Formatting is very simple and is similar to the way BBCode works on the forum. A full guide to formatting can be found on the MediaWiki formatting help page. Some quick clarification on the more frequently used formatting and what we will use in our pages is below. If you would like to see an example of formatting, visit the Help:Example_formatting page and click on the edit button to view the source. To test out formatting for yourself, you can use the Sandbox.
Format of section titles
level 1= ==level 2== ===level 3=== ====level 4==== =====level 5===== ======level 6=====
Generally we only want to use level 2 Section titles and lower (as level 1 is the size/format of the entire page title). For main sections within a page, use level 2 titles. For subsections of that, use level 3, and subsections of them may use level 4, etc. To give you an idea of what this looks like, the title of this main section "Formatting Pages" is level 2, and the subsection "Format of section titles" is level 3.
Tables of contents will automatically be created for pages with 4 or more headings, so no need to worry about them. The table of contents will be inserted above the first title in the page, so if you start the page with a summary it will appear above the table of contents (you can see an example at the top of this page), which is desirable.
New Lines
Normally text on consecutive lines will appear as the same paragraph. To force text in to a new paragraph, just insert two new lines.
Lists
You can use the asterisk symbol to create bulleted lists. Numbered lists can be created using hash/pound symbols:
* bulleted item 1 * bulleted item 2 ** sub item 2.1 ** sum item 2.2 # Numbered item 1 # Numbered item 2 ## Sum item 2.1 ## Sub item 2.2
Links to articles
Pages need to have lots of links to make it easy for people to read up on related subjects. You can link words that have associated pages.
If you want to link to a page, just enclose the word you want to link in double square brackets:
This is a link to brakes
If the link needs to be a different word, just use the the word after a vertical pipe:
This is a link to the brake page
If you want to link to a specific section of a page, just use the hash/pound symbol to denote a section, after the page name:
This is a link to After-market brakes
You can create links to pages that don't exist yet, so when you write content, feel free to link up appropriate words even if the pages don't exist yet. Generally you only need to link the first occurrence of a word in an article (otherwise we'll end up with hundreds of links per page!) but this isn't a rule and some longer pages may benefit from linking to the same page if the word crops up in more than one section.
Links to external sites
External pages can be linked to by enclosing the link with single square brackets:

A name can be set by separating the name after the URL with a space:
Wikipedia
More information on linking can be found on the MediaWiki links help page.
Images
This wiki has disabled uploading images, so we must rely on an external image host. The Savage Central Wiki Image Host (SCWIH) has been set up to host all images that are to be used in wiki articles. Please use this for ALL images, so they are consolidated in a single location.
Regarding copyrighted images, HPI has given us the go-ahead to use their own product images in the wiki, so these are fair game to use in part pages to illustrate parts and kits.
To post an image in an article, upload it to the SCWIH, copy the image file name and use the image template:
image-name.jpg
if there is no applicable caption:
image-name.jpg
You do NOT need to supply the entire image URL. Just the name of the image, as it is assumed to be hosted on the SCWIH.
Discussion Pages
To write comments about a page, or make notes about what needs to be added, amended, etc, click the "Discussion" link at the very top. This will take you to a page devoted to discussing the current article. Please feel free to use these pages as much as you want to make notes and talk about the content of the page. To sign your name after you have written a comment, use 4 tildes in a row:
~~~~
User pages
User page
You can create a page devoted to yourself by clicking your own name at the top right. An example is user:Kiz.
User talk page
You can chat with other users by clicking on their "talk" page and editing it. Please be aware this page is visible to everyone and is NOT private.
Vandalism, spam or Mistakes
This wiki is editable by anyone with an account and therefore may be vulnerable to vandals, spam or people who don't know how to operate it properly. A comprehensive history of each page is kept and allows viewing of who made what changes and reverting back to an earlier copy of a page. To access this, click the history button at the top of the page. You can compare different versions and go back to older copies and revert to them. A guide to reverting can be found on the MediaWiki reverting help page.
