Recommended hop-ups

This is a list of recommended hop-ups for those with new trucks. This list summarises the most effective hop-ups for the least amount of money. To find out more information on a hop-up or suggested products, click the appropriate link in the name.

  1. Hump pack - A good receiver pack allows the servos to run at maximum torque and speed. Battery packs are rechargeable and high capacity packs will run servos longer than disposable batteries. Standard on the XL
  2. Failsafe - A failsafe will bring your truck to a stop in the event of a radio signal drop out, or in the case of low battery. A must for the safety of your truck, yourself and spectators.
  3. Throttle mod - Replacement or modification of the existing throttle and brake linkage will increase brake strength, ensure the carburettor is opening all the way and can reduce stress on the throttle servo.
  4. Steering bearings - Replace the stock plastic bushings in the steering assembly with bearings. Direct part number HPI B045, but you can use any bearings of size 6x10x3mm.
  5. High torque steering servo - A high torque steering servo will improve steering performance. After this you may switch the throttle servo with the replaced steering servo to provide better braking.
  6. Tuned pipe - A better after market exhaust pipe will enable your engine to produce as as power as possible.
  7. Fuel tank mod - A better fuel tank will improve fuel delivery and reduce Half tank lean.
  8. Alloy Clutch shoes - High quality aluminium alloy clutch shoes will increase uptime and clutch response. After-market springs allow tuning of engagement.


Some higher cost, hop-ups are now listed. These are very effective but appear in a higher price range than those in the previous list.

  1. Radio system - a 2.4GHz radio system will stop all glitching and drastically improve radio signal reliability. 2.4GHz systems have lots of other benefits.
  2. Engine - A new engine can completely wake up your truck. Increased power improves acceleration, speed and fun!
  3. Shocks - A new set of shocks can drastically improve handling.
  4. TVPs - A new chassis adds integral strength but can also dramatically changes how the truck handles. Low center of gravity and extended chassis improve performance in a large way.
  5. Wheels and Tires - The stock wheels and tires can be wobbly and unbalanced and additionally have 0 offset. Tires with aggressive tread and offset wheels can improve performance.
